First: Fixed installations
Fixed prostheses are part of the patient’s teeth and cannot be easily removed. They are used to replace missing or damaged teeth and are permanently installed.
Types:
Fixed bridges:
Used to replace one or more missing teeth.
Consist of crowns placed on the adjacent teeth (abutments) and an artificial tooth (or more) placed between them.
Crown (implant):
Used when the damaged tooth cannot be repaired, and a crown is placed on the remaining tooth after it has been treated.
It can be made of ceramic or metal materials.
Vaser:
Usually used on the front teeth to give an aesthetic appearance.
Advantages:
Stability: They cannot be easily removed, making them a comfortable option.
Natural functions: They restore the ability to chew and speak normally.
Improved aesthetic appearance: They are considered an effective aesthetic solution.
Disadvantages:
Modifying adjacent teeth: Requires the removal of part of the enamel of the adjacent teeth.
Cost: They are often more expensive than removable prostheses.
Second: Mobile installations
Removable dentures are dentures that can be easily removed by the patient. They are usually used to replace missing teeth when the adjacent teeth are not healthy or sufficient to support fixed dentures.
Types:
Complete dentures:
Used to replace all missing teeth in one jaw.
Consist of an acrylic base that holds artificial teeth.
Partial dentures:
Used when there are some natural teeth remaining.
Consist of artificial teeth and connectors to attach them to the natural teeth.
