Dentures

Types of dentures

Complete Dentures (Conventional Complete):

Used to replace all or both teeth in the upper or lower jaw.

They are fitted after the remaining teeth have been removed and the gums have healed.
They usually consist of a pink acrylic base to match the color of the gums, and artificial teeth made of acrylic or porcelain.

Partial Dentures:
Used to replace some missing teeth, and are fitted between the remaining natural teeth.

They consist of an acrylic or metal base with artificial teeth, and are held in place by metal clasps or natural tooth adhesives.
They help prevent the remaining teeth from moving and maintain proper tooth alignment.

Immediate Dentures:
They are fitted immediately after tooth extraction.

They can be used temporarily during the gum healing period until the final denture is prepared.
They need frequent adjustments as the shape of the gums changes during the bone healing process.

Implant-Supported Dentures:

They are used when metal (titanium) implants are placed in the jawbone to hold the denture in place.
This type provides greater stability and strength compared to conventional dentures.
The denture is fixed to the implants, making them more stable and less likely to move.

Daily cleaning: Dentures should be cleaned daily using a soft brush and denture toothpaste to remove debris and plaque.

Soaking in a cleaning solution: To keep them clean and ensure that any bacteria or odor is removed.

Rinsing the dentures with water: After every meal to prevent food from accumulating under them.

Avoid exposing them to hot water: Because it may cause deformation of acrylic dentures.

Regular visits to the dentist: To make the necessary adjustments and ensure that the denture does not cause gum irritation or other problems.
